 "A Great Place to Grow"

Westwood Elementary School is one of six elementary schools in the School District of Mystery Lake, located in Thompson, Manitoba. Due to a fire that destroyed our school building in 2024, Westwood School is housed at two different locations and is currently a "school within a school". Westwood serves students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, with Kindergarten to Grade 5 students housed in the Westwood Wing of Burntwood School, and Grades 6 to 8 students in the Westwood Wing of Juniper School. The school employs a team of 55 staff members, including teachers, educational assistants, and other support personnel.

Message From the School Principal

The 2024-25 school year defined just how much resilience, flexibility and devotion Westwood School staff, students and families have.  We thought that making it through the Global Pandemic was challenging, then suddenly on July 24th, before the 2024-25 school year began, we were faced with the devastating loss of our beloved school.   With only a month to relocate, rebuild resources and restructure how we function as a school, Westwood School staff opened our doors to our students, without missing a beat.  We thank the numerous SDML staff, particularly at BW and JP Schools, as well as the SBO for all of there assistance and support during this continued transition period.  We deeply understand the impact this circumstance has had on the district, as a whole.

With loss, comes regrowth.  Along the way, we have made some new routines, some new partnerships/friendships and we have established new “normal”.  We once again have a thriving and supportive Parent Advisory Council and we look forward to the recent news that our school rebuild may soon be underway.  It continues to be our goal, to provide a stable, nurturing and engaging learning environment for our students, where everyone feels safe and welcome.  Thanks to all of you, Westwood continues to be “A Great Place to Grow”.

Mrs. T. Griffin
